It is always intriguing to me to see what personalities can pop out of a block of clay as I work with it. I usually have an idea in mind when I start to sculpt, but am often surprised when the smiling baby in my head, emerges from the clay screaming its little head off!  As you look closely at these little art sculptures, and hold them in your hands, I hope you feel a spark of the joy I feel when they are being sculpted.

Winters Whimsies are the creations of Marita Winters. Formally trained in commercial art, she worked as a freelance designer and artist for over two decades, eventually co-founding Winters Illustration & Design with her husband Monty.  Marita has returned to her early love of sculpting, concentrating on the realistic portrayal of tiny babies.

 

 I am so pleased to announce that my sister, Barb Gerde, has joined me in my doll-making venture! She is a wonderful seamstress with many awards to her name for her quilts and designs. In the near future, I plan to take photos of her gorgeous quilts to share with you. They deserve a website all to themselves ~ beautiful works of art that take her months to make! She worked for a theatre as a designer and seamstress for several years, designing costumes for plays. Now she will be using these artistic talents in creating designer baby doll clothing to dress my babies, and more to share with other doll makers.
